Benefit Auction September 16 In Knoxville Benefits National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum

Saturday, August 26, 2017 - Race teams and fans are encouraged to donate items to an annual fundraising auction in Knoxville, Iowa, September 16, as part of the 14th annual Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores. Proceeds from the auction will benefit both the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in Walton, Kentucky and the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in Knoxville. The auction, is set for Saturday, September 16. It will begin at Noon on the second floor of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum outside of turn two at the famed Knoxville Raceway on the Marion County Fairgrounds.

The auction is coordinated by volunteers Jim Rasmussen of Hazelton, Iowa and emcee and past National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Board President, Kathy Krafka Harkema of Iowa. Former late model driver Lynn Richard of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, serves as the event auctioneer. The fast-paced auction features interviews with current and retired drivers, as well as other racing celebrities, in between selling items to benefit the non-profit museums and promote the sports of late model and sprint car racing and preservation of their history.

“We encourage drivers and race teams to donate to help promote their team, and the late model museum,” said Jim Rasmussen. “Door panels, hoods, caps, apparel, photos, diecast and anything autographed, are always big hits with auction-goers,” he said. Rasmussen will also be canvassing the pits during the Sept. 14 and 15 preliminary nights of the Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals to help secure auction donations.

Among the items already donated to the auction are a set of pillows autographed by drivers taking part in the 2016 Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals, donated by Kathy Krafka Harkema.
“Every donation is appreciated and that’s what makes this auction so popular,” said Rasmussen. “Fans from Oregon to Maine and Texas to Canada pack in to attend this fun fundraiser each year. We invite race fans and race teams to donate to help again raise thousands of dollars each year, while getting a start on Christmas shopping or adding to their own collection of racing memorabilia.”

To donate, either send or drop off donations at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in Knoxville, Iowa, located off turn two of Knoxville Raceway. Items can be shipped to: NSCHoF, One Sprint Capital Place, P.O. Box 542, Knoxville, IA 50138.
